It seems obvious to state that a dress would normally start with a design, and generally in my work it does. Designing is one of my favourite parts of the process. You take all those ideas, research and inspiration and collate it into one purpose.
This is not always how I begin however. Sometimes a clear path does not present itself. With my own wedding dress I had so many thoughts on what I wanted I simply couldn’t fix on one route for long enough to design something I was happy with!
This is where you just start cutting and pinning and stitching to see where you end up. I draped my dress to the stand a number of times before I found something I was happy with. And it was only then that I put pen to paper so this creation could become fully formed in my mind.
After months of uncertainty of what I wanted, this design finally got me excited. This was my wedding dress!
